Ways to stay active during bad weather on campus.

In the upcoming weeks, the weather is going to change a lot, especially since we are in PA. You never know what you're going to get, some days it will be 75 and sunny, and the next day will be 40 and windy. Finding motivation to get out and be physically active in this weather can be very challenging, but here are some easy ways to do that on campus. The first thing that probably comes to all of our minds is the ARC. There are weights, treadmills, bikes, a track, a pool, and basketball courts. Another way to be active is if you live at the University Village. They have a nice little gym with weights, a cable machine, benches, a squat rack, treadmills, and bikes. If you are the type of person who wants to stay in and be active, you could always do at-home workouts in your dorm or apartment. You could do a combination of these exercises: pushups, sit-ups, planks, squats, pullups, burpees, mountain climbers, and lunges, to name a few. Staying physically active is key to living well. It is recommended that you be active for at least 60 minutes a day. If you are not able to find the time for an hour, at least try and get 30-45 minutes a day!

  1. Hi Carter! I think it is great that you mention the importance of staying PA during the bad weather that is in our future. I agree that the ARC is a great place to spend time to be PA. At home workouts are also a great option. I think at home workouts would be very beneficial for commuters who live at home life myself. These next several months are a very big part of mental health as well, I believe staying physically active can help us have great mental health!

  2. I think when the weather gets cold we all find excuses to not go to the gym. I hate the feeling of being sweaty then having to put a winter jacket on and going outside. If we really dive into it, the ARC is the best option for SRU students. It does offer everything and is easily accessible. If I were stuck in my dorm or home I would buy two dumbells at a comfortable weights and I would buy a door pull up bar. I would watch an at home workout from youtube as well.

  3. Hey Carter! I like this post because I think a lot of people struggle finding motivation to get into the gym even when the weather is beautiful. Then you throw inclement weather into the equation and it just makes matters worse. That being said I think that if you want it bad enough you will find a way to stay active and fit

  4. What's up carter I really enjoyed reading your blogger. I thought that you had a really thoughtful idea talking about how to stay physically active now that its getting colder and wet outside. I went to the arc a lot last year when I stayed on campus, a lot during the winter. The Arc also offers a pool for another way to get physical activity if you need it. I think that staying physically active during the winter time is a good way to have good mental health.

  5. Was just reading through your blog and then Mario's comment and it was exactly how I was feeling. Yes the ARC is the best answer to stay physically active but I also think it gets hard to actually get up and go when it's cold out. Plus it'll start getting dark around 6:30 here soon and it makes everyone lazier. I personally will still be going to the ARC no matter the weather or time but for the people that are maybe feeling lazy or thinking "I can lift tomorrow" just remember the days you wish you got up and went and remember how good you feel once your done.

  6. This is a great reminder about staying active, especially with how unpredictable Pennsylvania weather can be! I like how you mentioned multiple options for getting exercise, both indoors and outdoors. The ARC and University Village gyms sound like perfect spots for students to stay consistent. It is also nice that you included ideas for at home workouts because those are super convenient for busy days. Staying active really does help with both physical and mental health. Thanks for sharing these helpful and motivating tips Carter!

  7. Hey Carter, I really enjoyed reading your blog. You provide great ideas for staying active while the weather changes, especially since we live in PA. I live at University Village, and even though the gym there isn't the biggest, it is still available to stay consistent. Staying fit can help us in so many ways, and me more times we can get outside the better. Thanks for sharing!
